This is an abbreviated version of the mail that I wrote, full of nostalgia about the college which I wrote after attending not one, but three functions in which we got together with our contemporaries in St Stephen’s College, Delhi:
I am one of the lucky ones who attended three get-togethers in 2006, the batch dinner on November 19, the Alumini lunch at college on December 11 and the IIC lunch on the 24th.
It was simply great to catch up with all college mates and see who has aged how! Actually, one has been somewhat out of touch with batch-mates on the whole, except those in Chandigarh and it was wonderful to meet old friends again, and also rediscover many others. Thanks a lot guys who made it happen, Arvind, the alumni cell, Rahul, Kamlesh and Kali for their kind gesture, the thought and the implementation, and all you guys for being there on these get-togethers!
Life in college is definitely what shaped our lives enormously and I have found that visiting college from time to time has been an enriching experience, especially meeting our teachers, Vijay Tankha is the head of Department of Philosophy how. As some of you might remember, I was the lone student in Philo Hons by the 3rd year, but the Philo bonds are great and I am in touch with a number of old students as well as my teachers.
It was also great to meet Rothas at the Dhaba, and to have him recognise one! And everyone tells me I look like a grandfather. I live in Chandigarh, the attractions of which include — Daldeep Singh Shukarchakia (Doldy) (BA Pass), who is a lawyer practicing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court: Rajbirinder Chahal (Neenoo) (History) who was also a lawyer, till he got involved in running a BPO between playing his 18 holes at the local golf course, Karan Avtar Singh (Eco), one of the better bureaucrats that Punjab has and Jaswinder Pal Singh Brar, who is to be found at various marriages and bhogs when he is not farming.
I managed to find a job that I enjoy, I am a journalist and still maintain an interest in photography, ample opportunities for with are to be found when I go for Raid de Himalaya with which our batch-mate, Vijay Parmar (TT), has brought Himachal Pradesh and Leh on the international motoring calendars. Raswinder Singh Dhaliwal (Shekhoo) is also involved with the Raid.
