An event is something that happens or is regarded as happening. It is an occurrence, especially one of some importance.
It could be that you are born on a particular day and for some reason this is a cause of celebration, it could be a more genuine achievement like the launch of a book, or reading from one you have written, or even an interaction with some people, like in a lecture.
